I am considering purchasing a primitive 18th or early 19th century chest of drawers. The chest has three drawers. The drawer fronts are very, very plain, and there are no pulls, and there were never any pulls. No holes were ever drilled for pulls or handles. The base is very plain Chippendale form. The bracket feet are dovetailed in the front. The drawers are also dovetailed. The drawer sides are constructed of what appears to be white pine. I can't determine the wood for the drawer fronts or the rest of the chest. But, whatever, it is a light wood--maybe pine. It appears to be very old and is in rather good condition considering its age. One drawer appears to have been opened many times from the side as it appears to be wear caused by many hands opening it from the side. There is a light reddish stain on the chest. I see no evidence that it was ever painted. I don't have an image at this time. Do you have any idea as to the origin of the piece. It appears to be American.

right off, without seeing it - just from the description, it sounds shakerish to me -just from the simplicity and the dovetailing.
(I love that the draw is worn down from all the hands opening it.... I would buy it just for that...)
