I was looking at a pretty Noritake 'chocolate set' in a shop. This consisted of a tall pot with a short spout, a creamer, a sugar bowl and a large lidded bowl which I was told was 'for cookies'. I was told that this set dated from the twenties. Does anyone know whether these four items make a chocolate service? If not, what does? Thank you for any help.

More creative naming at work, I see.

The chocolate sets I'm familiar with have a tall pot with a short spout, but more importantly they have tiny cups and saucers. They do not have creamers, sugars or lidded bowls. Sounds like this was assembled from leftover parts of a dinner service.

Not always; at least not Spanish style circa 1600 A.D. (give or take a few years). From what I've read, the Spanish nobles drank a godawful concoction of chocolate (the cocoa beans were brewed like coffee beans), peppercorns, sugar (probably brown sugar), cinnamon, and nutmeg! Not at all what most of us think of when we think of hot chocolate!
