What is the going price for somthing of a similar style NEW? And similar sets in other shops in your area?

When businesses invoke the 'protection of consumers,' it's a lot like politicians invoking morality and children - grab your wallet and/or your kid and run for your life.

Duncan Phyffe...1940s? Surely not? Try the Trivia Quiz (Duncan Phyffe) thread.

Roy - Don't get your boxers in a bunch. Furniture styled closely or vaguely like Phyffe's designs was popular for decades, and seems to be the dominant style for American dining room furniture throughout the 1930s and 40s. A well-built set from the 1940s is a better value than most new sets.

Thanks T. Got that from another post. My knowledge increases.

BTW we didn't get much of anything (except guns and things) produced over here in the early 40s, but after the war when we needed lots of value for money the government came up with 'Utility' furniture.

Mostly looks like hell but lasts for generations. A lot of it has been going to the US via 'antiques' shippers for years <g>. Ronnie will go spare if I suggest that it's over 50 years old and fair game for rec.antiques
