I have a glorious Horrocks Roll Top Desk, with a intermittent clock that is made by New Haven Clock Co. On the face of the clock it reads 'THE JUNIOR TATTOO' and on the back plate it reads 'pat'd April 5, 1904. I think the desk is mahogany. I'm curious of the value of the piece.

That is nice and has a lot of appeal over a standard oak roll top. It has great patina so don't clean or refinish. To help determine age (value), please post a photo of the inside of a drawer and the dovetail work. Thank you.

Hello again. I did not ask if clock worked, if the desk is in good working order and where in the country you are located (just a city). Thank you

Hi. The dovetails pin this item down to machine manufactured and mass produced yet the desk is a real beauty. To determine if the facing and top is real mahagony the question is simple. With the drawers out, does it take six men to lift it with a lot of cursing and remarks about "how heavy it is?". The clock patent date is a good indicator of the date of manufacture and that looks to be 1904 as you noted earlier. This qualifes the desk as a genuine antique and if mahagony a good seller in a good antiques market. The market here in central Virginia is terrible and not improving, with prices falling 50% or more in the last 4 years. I can only provide a central Virginia estimate and if mahogony and good working order, I think the desk will seel for between 600 and 800 dollars on a good day. It may sit for a while, for some months, but it will eventually move out the door in that price range here.

Anthony Instead of being rude maybe you should back up your comments with some fact., Probst initial valuation based on photographs was pretty accurate for a year ago. Today's auction estimates are still not that much better.

I was going to ask, by what authority was he speaking ? internet prices border ridiculos in some cases. Mr Prosbt was speaking Central Virginia auction values.
