Rontgen's Marks on German, Bohemian & Austrian Porcelain shows a Carl Thieme mark , 2nd half of 19th century, with crossed swords pointing downward, and a T between the handles. Danckert's Directory of European Porcelain shows a Carl Thieme mark with handle-less crossed swords (looking like a large X) and a T, registered in 1896. Chaffers' Marks & Monograms says Thieme 'used. . . an imitation of the crossed swords, but without their being so exact a copy as to incur litigation.' Thieme was located in Potschappel before moving to Dresden.

This might be where I can insert my newest Book Review...I just finished 'The Arcanum - The Extraordinary True Story' by Janet Gleeson. It's the story of the Meissen factory and how Europe got porcelain. This is SUCH a good read. There is high drama and intrigue through the whole book...it's very well told and makes you want to go to see and collect old porcelain. It's new this year and should be easy to find. Enjoy!

I'd like to second the thumbs up on that book. It's packed with information, but still as Tina said, SUCH a good read. I'd really like to know if there are any porcelain experts out there who have read it, and their take on it. There's a lot of historical info, but it is apparently well researched. In any event, anyone with any interest at all on the origins of European porcelain needs to read this book.
