Hello Efferbody , Well this weekend our village held its annual buy - each -others -junk Auction to raise funds for the local boys club band. Amongst other things....... I landed this table, a fine sturdy chap, built to take anything a Scots Farmer could Slap on it !!!!! now now now folks , its a Sunday : ))) Anyway , I must make it shine, it deserves to, so I intend to use Briwax but need any pointers on getting the best out of the stuff, ( prep ? wire wool ? cloth ? clockwise motion ?! ? : )) I have tried in the past with pine but have never been happy with the result. Any tips greatly appreciated. Here is the unfinished item, I will post a pic of the finished article, whenever that may be : ) www.dustystuff.co.uk/dustystuffpage11.htm

Cheers Jim

Never liked using the PVA trick myself, I like the coloured wax trick best. The kits they sell seldom give a good match and the wax is too soft. The best bet with that is to get the monster pack of children's crayons, some of the red & browns are dead on for mahoganies and the yellow/ambers great for pine and oak. To get the colour bang on, just melt the crayons that match the closest together ( one too dark/one too light) in a bottle cap and when it hardens rub it across the crack until it fills. To get the crack filled dead level after you have rubbed the wax in, rub over it with a cotton cloth pulled tight around a wooden block with a bit of mineral spirits splashed on it.
