Kris and Cyn (and anyone else that's agreeable), I propose that we stage a coup de main and retake rec. antiques. This is a newsgroup, for-heavens-sake! It should be fun and lively and stimulating. In other words ,entertainment. A place to learn and occassionally blow off steam. I refuse to feel guilty about engaging in trivial chit chat. No one is forced to read my drivel and one click of the mouse takes you on to something else. Having reached the age of 50, I am now a legitimate antique, and my drivel is officially sanctioned. I further propose that each newbie be issued five 'stupid question' vouchers. That should get them unscathed through the 'how much is it worth' stage while they become accustomed to our specific rules. I realize that rules are necessary and are (usually)made for good reasons. But the best rules are the ones that allow for flexibility. Breaking a rule here does not yield the same level of consequences as the one that says 'never stick a finger in an electrical outlet'. I advocate a bit of tolerance, an effort not to take things quite so seriously (or personally), forgiveness (once) for the unpardonable sin of posting a auction site. Power to the people.

I remember the days that we compared this newsgroup to a pub, where people sat down and chatted; things would normally go off-topic after a couple of days (as all conversations do), and through some miracle, the topic would roam back into antiques.

(*<~ I refuse to be a part of this frivolity, antiques are far too serious a subject. I refuse to share my knowledge with the likes of us..... imo
